I was thinking about hosting a post-fast meal (Yom Kippur) to meet people at the building (and in the neighborhood) I plan to move to. I was thinking about bagel/lox/cream cheese, along with other dishes, but saw this and thought–“great idea! I can just make it a buffet with DIY bagels and fixings, and put out some other stuff as well.

Re “smoked salmon” vs lox: I think you have it backward–lox is “cold-smoked”, meaning cured, but not hot-smoked. Smoked salmon is the one that is (hot) smoked, but not cured.
