Meggan’s notes

A good sandwich is one of life’s humble pleasures.

I’m going to show you how to build a sandwich that is perfectly proportioned among ingredients, flavors, and textures. You’ll have the perfect turkey-to-bacon ratio, the right mix of vegetables, and the ideal sandwich vessel: a flaky, buttery croissant.

Use these lessons in the world to build more sandwiches in the world, feeding yourself and those you love. It’s a noble pursuit, I swear!

Ingredient notes

  • Turkey: Or substitute leftover roasted turkey.
  • Bacon: To cook bacon in the oven, arrange it in a single layer on a rack set over a rimmed baking sheet. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes in a 400-degree oven. Or substitute crispy prosciutto.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Working with one sandwich at a time, or assembling all four simultaneously, arrange 4 ounces turkey meat on the bottom half of a croissant. Top each with 2 slices of bacon, a lettuce leaf, and tomato slices.

Recipe tips and variations

  • Yield: This recipe makes 4 sandwiches.
  • Storage: Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • BLT croissant sandwich: For a classic BLT on a croissant, omit the turkey.
  • Club croissant sandwich: Substitute deli ham for the bacon, add a slice of cheese (Swiss cheese or cheddar are good), and omit the avocado. For a regular old club sandwich, serve it on toast instead of a croissant.
  • Croissant breakfast sandwiches: Omit the lettuce and turkey and add scrambled eggs and cheese. You can add ham, bacon, or a sausage patty with the egg. For extra credit, brush the cut surfaces of the croissant with butter and grill on a skillet.
  • Caprese sandwich: Layer mozzarella, tomatoes, and fresh basil leaves on a croissant or sliced ciabatta.
  • More toppings: Try sliced cucumbers, a handful or sprouts, pickled red onions, peppery arugula, or dill pickle slices.
  • Mayonnaise mix-ins: Flavor your mayo with a spoonful of pesto, Dijon mustard, or a few cloves of mashed roasted garlic. To make honey mustard sauce, whisk together ¼ cup mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 tablespoon yellow mustard, and 1 teaspoon lemon juice.

  1. Hmmm, I can tell this one is super YUMMY only by reading the post title! But man, those croissant sandwich looks so good! I totally agree with you, the homemade sandwich tastes much better because you could select best and fresh ingredients. I actually would like grill the croissant with the cheese and bacon before adding any veggies. I will have trouble with stopping eating them 🙂5 stars
